Expect

"Expect" is a small word that really has a wide range of meanings!

Everyone approaches a situation with certain expectations. In order for those expectations to be fulfilled, it is important to make those expectations known in a specific language to allay any confusion as to what the expectations are. If you elect me as one of your representatives on the Lethbridge School Board, you will expect me to be someone of integrity who respects you, communicates with you, and earns your respect in return.

You will likely expect that I will research the issues that confront the board, be aware of the ramifications of decisions that will be made, and listen to the data that is presented; you would want me to be willing to discuss the impacts of decisions clearly and concisely. You will expect that I will communicate regularly and clearly with you about what is happening in the district. Likewise, I will expect that you will communicate with me when there are issues or questions which concern you and which may impact your children and your families.

It is important to recognize that communication is a two-way street. Formulating important decisions requires a great deal of discussion, sometimes asking difficult questions and determining what is best for the entire school system and not just for a few people. Sometimes these discussions cover uncomfortable topics, but they need to be held in order to work through the issues and resolve them satisfactorily.

It is normal to expect that I will be careful about my fiduciary responsibility. You expect me to spend your tax dollars carefully and wisely, making sure that our students' educational needs are taken care of in a sustainable way and that our School System will be held in high regard. You may expect that student/teacher ratios should be monitored carefully so that no student falls between the cracks. The balance of meeting student needs and spending money must be carefully evaluated.

You will expect me to ensure that our schools and facilities will be safe places for students to learn and interact with peers and others, ask the questions that are pressing, experience personal and intellectual growth, and be excited about the learning process. You will expect the Board to provide the resources necessary for teachers to teach our students effectively and students will be able to learn what they need to learn to grow to their full potential. You will expect that students will be taught how to research the issues, ponder possible solutions, and gain an honest insight into our world and society, developing an understanding and appreciation of many of the cultures that comprise the mosaic of our society.

Expect a great deal and help us achieve our goals!
